What
While Claude replies, its output arrives in small pieces, a process called streaming. Claude Code can now take pieces it is holding back (text, structured data and Claude's thinking) and fold them into a single update instead of passing each one along separately.
This sits behind a server-controlled switch, tengu_toasty_giraffe, which falls back to off when the server sends nothing. If the server sends a value that is not a plain true or false, Claude Code logs that it ignored it and treats the switch as off.
Why
Grouping streamed pieces could change how a reply appears on screen as it arrives. Because it is off unless switched on remotely, nothing changes by default.
