What

Claude Code can pull things worth remembering out of a conversation in the background. Its settings for this gain an option, declare_task, which is off by default. When it is on, the memory run registers itself as a task, with a way to stop it, before it starts.

Nothing in Claude Code turns this on. Only a setting sent by Anthropic's servers can.

Why

If switched on, background memory extraction would appear as a declared task instead of running unseen.
