Apps that drive Claude Code through the Agent SDK can change its settings with an update_settings request and read them with get_settings. The effort level controls how much thinking Claude puts into a reply.
update_settings now accepts effortLevel set to auto. Before, only fixed levels were accepted and anything else returned an invalid-effort error.
get_settings now reports effortAuto, saying whether auto effort is in use.
Both only apply when a new check in Claude Code allows them.
