What
Setting CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_CFC_PROMPT makes Claude Code leave out its Claude in Chrome section of the system prompt (the standing instructions Claude gets) and the /claude-in-chrome bundled skill. The browser tools stay available.
Claude Code now also reports this to apps that host it, such as the VS Code extension. When the variable is set, those hosts drop their own browser instructions too.
Why
Turning the Chrome guidance off now takes it out of the prompt everywhere, including instructions added by an editor, while Claude can still use the browser.
