In auto mode, an automatic safety check decides whether tool calls (actions Claude takes, such as running a command) can go ahead, sometimes with extra checks on the side. Two things were added:
- A remote list naming side checks to retire. A side check on the list is skipped. The list is empty unless it is set remotely.
- A policy for what to do with the safety check's verdict when a tool call was rewritten by a hook (a script you configure to run automatically) or by Claude Code itself. It can be off, keep the local result, or deny everything. It is off unless it is set remotely.
Claude Code also records more detail about each safety check, such as which check ran and how a handoff between agents was described.
These give Anthropic a remote way to switch off parts of auto mode's checking and to set how rewritten tool calls are treated. Both stay inactive unless changed remotely.
tengu_copper_trellis Off in both readingsThe flag server returned off for the account this site reads and for the anonymous baseline. A reading of off cannot rule out a rollout these two readings sit outside of.
