What

Claude Code keeps a lock file marking the version it is running. It now rewrites that file at regular intervals, and takes the lock back if another process holds it or the lock has gone stale. If this fails, the failure is logged and Claude Code carries on.

Why

This stops another install or update from deleting the version you are currently running.
