Print mode runs Claude Code without the interactive screen. In a remote session in print mode where every background task still running is a shell command, Claude Code waits in long sleeps. The length of those sleeps used to be fixed. It now comes from a remotely controlled value. When the server sends nothing, or a value that is not a number or is out of range, Claude Code uses its default minimum.
The part that keeps these sessions alive also records more usage data: the longest sleep allowed, how many full long sleeps it took, and time spent waiting at a card. It also records activity around watching and relaying edit diffs, the before and after views of a file change.
Anthropic's server can now tune how long these sessions sleep. Without a value from the server, the wait behaves as before.
