What

Effort is how much reasoning Claude puts into a reply, and Claude Code tracks it turn by turn. A forked session is one that branches off an existing session at a chosen point. Claude Code now looks back at the original session when working out effort for a forked one: turns from before the fork point take the effort they had there.

Why

A forked session keeps the effort level of the conversation it was branched from.
