What
A background session is a Claude Code session running while you do something else. When one of its actions is waiting for approval, the message now depends on the action:
If auto mode's automatic safety check could approve it, the message says the session may approve it without you.
Otherwise the message still says the session is waiting for you to approve the tool.
Why
You can tell when an approval may be handled for you and when you actually need to go back to the session.
