What

CLAUDE_AUTOCOMPACT_PCT_OVERRIDE sets how full the context window, the amount of text the model can take in at once, must be before Claude Code compacts automatically. On its own it can only lower that point. Remote sessions are those where CLAUDE_CODE_REMOTE is set. In those sessions there is now one case where the point can be raised. All three of these must hold:

  • the session is remote
  • CLAUDE_AUTOCOMPACT_PCT_OVERRIDE is set
  • the context window is small

Then a number sent by the server replaces your override, if it is higher and no more than 100. Without a value from the server that number is 0 and changes nothing. CLAUDE_CODE_BLOCKING_LIMIT_OVERRIDE is also read at this point.

Why

In those remote sessions, compaction can start later than your override asks for.
