Unclear It is not stated what the credits boundary is or when it applies.

What

Compaction shortens the conversation so it fits in what the model can accept. When a request fails because the prompt is too long, Claude Code compacts and tries again, choosing how far to cut from how much too long it was. It can now also choose a step called credits_tenth, when a credits boundary applies and the shortfall is larger.

Why

This changes how much of the conversation is kept when Claude Code retries.
