Unclear The default of the server-controlled setting behind this check is not known, so it is unclear whether the check is active.
What
Rewind takes your files back to an earlier checkpoint, a saved point in the session. If a file did not exist at that checkpoint, rewind deletes it. On Linux and WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), Claude Code now first opens the folder it recorded for that file and checks whether the folder has moved, been replaced or been deleted. It refuses to delete the file in two cases:
The folder has moved since the checkpoint
The folder has been replaced by a link, a shortcut pointing somewhere else
On other systems, and in other cases, it deletes the file the way it did before. This check is controlled by a setting Anthropic's servers can change.
Why
This stops rewind from deleting a file in the wrong place because a folder was swapped out or turned into a link after the checkpoint was taken.
