What
An MCP server is an outside tool or data source Claude Code connects to. When Claude Code asks a connector for its list of tools and that fails because sign-in is needed, it now reports "MCP server needs authentication" and marks the problem as one you can fix by signing in. Before, it reported that the connector was connected but its tools could not be listed.
Why
You now get a message that points you to signing in, instead of an error that suggests something else is broken.
