What
Claude Code keeps a list of models and works out which one to use depending on the provider, meaning the service the model is reached through. This lookup was a fixed table and is now worked out in code. It can now:
filter models by which providers offer them
point a model alias, a short name for a model, at a different target for each provider, with a default
fall back to the target for Anthropic's own service when a provider does not offer the model
Why
This changes how Claude Code picks the actual model behind a name depending on which provider you use.
