What
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard Claude Code uses to connect to outside tool servers. When an MCP server needs you to sign in first, Claude Code holds a placeholder entry for it until you do.
Claude Code regularly asks each server for its list of tools. When that request fails and the server is still only a placeholder waiting for sign-in, Claude Code now clears its stored copy of that server's tools and stops there. It no longer applies the failed result. Before, the failed result was applied anyway.
Why
A brief error from a server you have not signed in to yet no longer wipes out its placeholder tools.
