What

MCP servers are outside programs that give Claude extra tools and data, including files called resources. When Claude reads a resource, or a folder of resources, Claude Code now checks the skills the server has listed. A skill is a packaged set of instructions Claude can use.

  • Reading a skill resource the server did not list returns an error with guidance.
  • Reading a listed skill resource is checked and then goes ahead.

The messages for binary content were also reworked.
