Unclear It is not clear which servers use this switch or whether any feature you can reach relies on it yet.
What
MCP servers are outside programs that give Claude Code extra tools. First-party servers are the ones provided by Anthropic. Configurations that Claude Code manages for itself can now list such a server with an id and a setting that says whether file uploads to it are allowed.
When uploads are turned off for a server, Claude Code refuses the upload and gives the reason uploads_off. This check runs before any other policy checks.
Why
File uploads to a first-party MCP server can now be turned off one server at a time. If an upload is refused with uploads_off, that server's own settings blocked it, not a wider policy.
