What
A subagent is a separate helper that Claude starts to work on part of a task. When one reports back, it sends a short summary of how it ended. The instructions given to Claude when it coordinates these helpers now list a fourth possible outcome: the helper is waiting on its own background work. In that case its result may be interim, and it may send another update later.
Before, the summary could only say a helper:
finished
failed, with an error
was stopped
stopped at its turn limit
Why
Claude, acting as coordinator, is now told that a helper's report may not be final. It can then wait for the follow-up instead of treating the first report as the finished result.
