What

Claude must see a file before changing it. To check this, NotebookEdit (the tool that edits Jupyter notebooks) now compares the notebook's cells, laid out the way Read shows them, with what Claude last read. It treats the file as unseen only when those differ. Writing ordinary files uses the same check. Before, this was decided by comparing timestamps.

Why

A file whose time changed but whose content did not should no longer trigger a "file not read" error.
