What

When a conversation grows too long, Claude Code compacts it: it replaces older messages with a summary so the conversation can continue. Claude then receives a note explaining that the session is being continued. That note has new wording, and it no longer includes the line "Recent messages are preserved verbatim."

Why

This changes what Claude is told right after compaction, which can affect how it treats the earlier part of the conversation.
