What
When a conversation grows long, Claude Code compacts it: it replaces earlier messages with a summary so there is room to keep going. A "Compacted" line appears when this happens. Before this release, that line only told you which key to press to see the earlier messages or the history.
The line now has a version for the summary, and it can add a second line reading "Earlier messages are saved in" followed by a file location, when Claude Code knows where they were saved.
Why
You can now find the full conversation from before compaction on disk.
