What
After an update, Claude Code can restart your current session on the newly installed version. When it can't, it now explains why. The reasons cover several cases, for example:
Remote Control is connected: "Can't restart while Remote Control is connected."
The installed version can't be found: the message suggests running /doctor to check your installs.
The session could not be saved, or its folder or launcher is missing.
The installed version is above the highest version allowed.
When the restart succeeds, a notice says the session was successfully updated or successfully downgraded from the earlier version. If the version did not change, it says "Session resumed".
Why
A refused restart now tells you what stopped it, so you know whether to disconnect Remote Control, fix your install or simply restart by hand.
