What

Claude Code checks that an attached remote machine is still responding by sending it a probe. Before, a single missed probe marked the machine as away at once. Now, if a probe is missed while the machine is still listed as online:

  • Claude Code reports that it is waiting.
  • It keeps probing for a set period.
  • If the machine answers, Claude Code reports that it is back.
  • Only if it never answers is the machine marked away.

Several checks waiting at the same time share one probing loop.

Why

Machines with a shaky connection are less often reported as unreachable when they are still there.
