In vim editing mode, pressing Esc to go from INSERT to NORMAL moves the cursor back one position. It now moves back by one whole visible character, however many internal units that character takes up. Before, it always moved back by a single unit, which could leave the cursor in the middle of an emoji or a letter with an accent mark.
Why
If you type emoji or non-English text in vim mode, the cursor now lands on a real character boundary after Esc.
