When Claude wants to do something that needs your permission, Claude Code normally stops and asks you. Claude Code now has a setting that turns each of those questions into a refusal, so the action is denied and nothing waits for an answer. With it on:
- Any request that would have asked you is denied.
- For questions only a person can answer, hooks (your own scripts that run at set points) and other approvers are not consulted.
- In auto mode, the question about reading files outside the project is skipped.
Separately, the denial produced in dontAsk mode no longer carries the question that would have been asked.
This gives Claude Code a way to run without anyone watching, likely for headless runs (runs with no interactive screen) or scheduled runs, where a question would otherwise wait forever.
