Unclear Whether connector file uploads are switched on by default is not clear.
Claude Code can now send files from your computer to claude.ai connectors, which are outside services that give Claude tools. Before a call sends files, an approval prompt tells you how many files the call sends from this computer and lists them.
The feature includes:
- Detection of file paths that use look-alike characters to pass for a different path
- A fingerprint (hash) of each file, and uploads streamed through the claude.ai API or an MCP proxy
- Refusal to send files from credential and secret-store locations
- Many specific refusal messages explaining why a file was not sent
- A policy setting,
allow_connector_file_uploads, that controls whether uploads are allowed
It is refused in non-interactive runs (-p), remote sessions and code-mode sessions, where it reports that sending files to connectors is not available in this session. If a connector was already listed before uploads were enabled, reconnect it in /mcp before it can take files.
Files can now leave your machine for third-party services, so the approval prompt and the allow_connector_file_uploads policy are what decide when that happens.
Whether connector file uploads are switched on by default is not clear.
