What

A gateway is a server placed between Claude Code and the model providers behind it, called upstreams. When a gateway is set up for the desktop app, Claude Code now adds a built-in tool to the list of disabled tools if both are true:

  • Upstreams: every upstream is Bedrock or Mantle.
  • Web search: there is no managed web search server.

On such gateways, that tool will no longer be available, and it appears to be web search.
