What

A background task is a command that keeps running while Claude does other work. When Claude waits on its output with the TaskOutput tool, Claude Code checks the output file for progress at regular intervals. It now skips a check while the previous read of that file is still going.

Before, every check started a new read, even if the last one had not finished.

Why

With a task that produces a lot of output, reads could pile up on top of each other. Now there is at most one at a time.
