claude mcp add adds an MCP server, an outside program that gives Claude extra tools, to your local setup. A new hidden --web option adds it as a claude.ai connector instead. A connector is a server linked to your claude.ai account. It does not appear in the command's help.
With --web, you give a name and an https address. Claude Code then:
- checks the address
- looks for the connector in your claude.ai connectors and the connector directory
- opens claude.ai so you can finish connecting
- keeps checking until the connector shows as connected
It refuses when:
- the address contains secrets
- your organisation has locked down this setting
- you are on a Team or Enterprise plan
The option is off unless the server switches it on. Until then, using it prints "--web isn't available yet" and suggests removing --web and using --transport http for an https address.
This would let you add a claude.ai connector without leaving the terminal. For now, most people will see the not-available message and can use --transport http to add the server locally instead.

Fixed claude mcp add and remove writing the config without its lock: they now wait for it or exit 1, though another job's save can still…
