What

A routine is a saved task that runs Claude under your claude.ai account, and Claude manages routines with the RemoteTrigger tool. Several things changed together:

  • Outside auto mode, only the read actions list, get, list_runs and get_run_log run without asking. create, update, run and create_webhook_trigger now ask for your approval, and a rule that allows the whole tool no longer covers them. Before, every action was allowed outside auto mode. The prompt says: "Creating, changing or running a routine needs your approval: a routine runs Claude under your claude.ai account."
  • Connectors (MCP servers, add-ons that give Claude access to outside services) are attached to a routine by default: a routine created with neither mcp_connections nor clear_mcp_connections normally still gets the account's connected connectors, including ones not listed.
  • clear_mcp_connections is now documented for create, to make a routine with no connectors. An empty mcp_connections on update now changes nothing; before, it was described as removing all connections.
  • After a create, the result warns when the server attached connectors Claude did not ask for and explains how to clear them with clear_mcp_connections. Claude is also told to confirm connectors with you.
  • The payload that creates a session also gains a programUseCaseId field.

Why

A routine acts as you, so setting one up or running it now needs your say-so. You are also less likely to end up with a routine that silently has access to connectors you never meant it to use.
