Unclear What choosing turns or inline changes is not stated.
What
The smaller_pass block in the JSON settings read from CLAUDE_CODE_POST_TURN_MEMORY_CONFIG now accepts a form setting:
turns is used when form is missing or not recognised
inline is the other choice
The mode of smaller_pass accepts only off or shadow. It cannot be set to enforce, which the first_look block does accept.
None of this is read unless the CLAUDE_CODE_POST_TURN_MEMORY environment variable is set.
Why
This part of post-turn memory is still an experiment that can only run in shadow mode. It affects nobody who has not set both environment variables.
