What
Claude runs shell commands through its Bash tool, the tool it uses to run commands in a terminal. Claude Code now measures repeated commands in three steps:
each command is split into its individual statements
each statement is compared with earlier calls of the same command in the same place
Claude Code notes whether files changed in between, whether anything was written, whether tests or linters (code checkers) ran, and how the earlier call turned out
If the measuring itself fails, Claude Code logs the error.
Why
This measures how often Claude reruns a command when nothing has changed since the last time. It records information and does not change which commands run.
