The Bash tool is how Claude runs terminal commands. Two kinds of note can now be added to what Claude sees after a command:
- Out-of-memory note: if the operating system killed a process during the command because the computer ran out of memory, a note says so. Only a limited number are added per session (one run of Claude Code). This is off unless it is switched on remotely.
- Server-set notes: a list of rules sent from the server can add short bracketed notes to Bash output, based on the kind of command, how long it ran and whether it failed. Nothing is sent by default. If the list sent is not valid, Claude Code logs an error and adds no notes for that session.
Claude gets clearer hints when a command was killed for lack of memory, and guidance about commands can be adjusted from the server without a new release.
