What
The mode that decides whether a subagent's token budget sits on top of its starting context is no longer fixed for the session. A subagent is a helper Claude starts to work on part of a task. Before, Claude Code read the mode once, the first time it was needed, and kept that answer. It now reads it each time.
The mode still comes from the CLAUDE_CODE_CALM_MOCHI environment variable or a server setting. The values forks and all are kept, and any other value becomes none.
Why
A change made on the server partway through a session can now change how subagent budgets behave in that same session.
