A subagent is a helper Claude starts to work on part of a task. Before, Claude Code read the mode once, the first time it was needed, and kept that answer. It now reads it each time.\n\nThe mode still comes from the `CLAUDE_CODE_CALM_MOCHI` environment variable or a server setting. The values `forks` and `all` are kept, and any other value becomes `none`.\n\n**Why**\n\nA change made on the server partway through a session can now change how subagent budgets behave in that same session.\n\n- Area: Subagents\n- Tier: Under the hood\n- Useful: 1\/5\n- Signal: 1\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
