What
When you paste a large block of text into a prompt, Claude Code stores it separately and shows a short placeholder in its place. When Claude Code reads your prompt history, it now loads that stored text and builds a fuller version of each entry with the pasted text filled in. The length it counts for an entry now includes the pasted text. There is a cap on how much pasted text it expands.
Why
Searching your prompt history can now find a past prompt by something you pasted into it, not only by what you typed.
