What

A monitor is something Claude can leave running in the background to watch for an event. Claude Code's wording to Claude about monitors has changed. It now tells Claude:

  • A monitor can be counted on only while Claude is working.
  • A few minutes after Claude replies, the monitor is likely stopped.
  • Claude may hear nothing more until you write again.
  • To wait for something before answering, Claude should run a command in the foreground, one it waits on.
Why

This steers Claude away from relying on a monitor to report back after it has replied.
