What
The list of configuration overrides Claude Code applies to the git commands it runs behind the scenes now also sets diff.autoRefreshIndex to false. It sits alongside the existing gc.auto=0 and maintenance.auto=false overrides. With it, git's diff commands no longer refresh the index, which is git's record of the files staged for the next commit, so they make no writes to it.
Why
It cuts down on files that Claude Code's own git commands change as a side effect, so checking your repository does not quietly modify it.
