What

The effort slider, reached from /effort, sets how much effort the model puts into its answers. It now has a keybinding action, effortSlider:adaptive, that switches an auto level on and off. A keybinding action is a named command you can attach to a key.

  • While auto is selected, the slider track shows no marker.
  • Confirming the slider with auto selected sets the level to auto.
  • Auto is offered only when the current model supports it and another condition inside Claude Code is met.
  • No key is attached to the action by default.
Why

Once available, you could choose adaptive effort from the slider and attach the action to a key of your own in your keybindings. Because no key comes attached, you will not come across the action by pressing keys.
