What
Grove is the setting that controls whether your conversations may be used to train models. Claude Code now reads a new account value, grove_locked_by_claude_science, and handles accounts where this setting is locked.
- The privacy settings dialog, opened with
/privacy-settings, passes the value to the settings screen aslockedByClaudeScience. When it is set, the toggle ignores input and shows a dimmed 'false' with the text 'Not available for this account.' Closing the dialog then skips the normal save step. Before, the toggle could be locked only for excluded domains (domainExcluded). - The 'Updates to Consumer Terms' dialog also handles the lock. When it is set, the option to turn sharing off is removed and only the opt-in option is offered. A new notice appears, and pressing Enter or Esc records an opt-out. The notice reads 'This setting wasn't turned on. It's off for your account. You can review it any time with /privacy-settings.'
- Saving the Grove setting can now send
opt_in_only_if_unset=grove_enabled, which asks the server to opt in only if no choice has been made yet. It returns thegrove_enabledvalue the server reports. Before, it always used the plain account settings address and returned nothing.
Why
If your account is affected, you can no longer change the data-sharing choice from these dialogs. The setting appears off and dimmed. Use /privacy-settings to check what your account shows.
