What

Autocompact is the feature that automatically summarizes a long conversation so it fits in the model's memory. When Claude Code starts a session from a saved session record, it now reads the autocompact state stored in that record and passes it into the new session.

Why

A resumed session may carry on with the autocompact state it had before, instead of starting that state from scratch.
