Unclear What happens to a conversation once it passes this age is not stated.
When continuing a conversation, Claude Code now looks up a maximum age, measured in milliseconds, from its saved transcript. It looks in this order:
- a value from the environment
- otherwise a number from Anthropic's servers, accepted only within a fixed range, one end of which is 5400000 milliseconds (90 minutes). This step is skipped for sessions started as
remote_cowork_trigger.
A server switch can make the check apply no age limit at all under some conditions. When the server sends nothing, that switch counts as on.
How old a conversation can be before this limit applies can now be set from outside Claude Code, by the environment or by the server.
