Claude Code uses a program called ripgrep to search and list files. Until now, if ripgrep timed out, was stopped, or produced more output than Claude Code could hold, whatever it had found so far was returned as if it were complete.
There is now an option that makes these cases fail with an error instead. With it switched on, Claude Code reports one of these messages:
Ripgrep listing is incomplete: it timed out, was killed or exceeded the output buffer.when the search timed out, was stopped, or ran out of room.Ripgrep output exceeded the output buffer and was truncated.when the output was too large and was cut short.
A file list that has been quietly cut short looks the same as a complete one. That can lead Claude to believe a file does not exist when it was simply never reached. Where this option is used, an incomplete listing is reported as a failure instead of being passed off as the full picture.
