What
Claude Code fetches the published list of models in the background and compares it with what it already uses. Previously the startup version of this fetch ran once and later calls did nothing. Later calls now fetch the list again over the network.
Why
How often Claude Code refreshes the model list in the background changes. This happens out of sight and does not change which model you pick.
