What
A UserPromptSubmit hook is a script that runs when you send a prompt, before Claude handles it. While it runs, Claude Code can show a spinner (a small progress indicator).
For SDK clients, which are programs built on Claude Code rather than the usual terminal app, Claude Code now records whether that hook progress was shown. When it was not shown, it records that there was no spinner.
