What
Compaction shortens a conversation so it fits in what the model can accept. Claude Code adds two new recorded reasons around it: one for compaction that names the tools that were loaded, and one for when compaction was not needed at the hard size limit.
There is also a new background task that runs after a turn and is shown as memory save, and a new recorded event about input held behind a prompt in remote sessions.
Why
These point to compaction naming the tools that were loaded and to a memory save that runs after each turn.
