Unclear It is not clear what the extra value sent to the server changes about a replace.
What
Two things change when Claude uses the project_write tool to replace a project document:
project_doc_too_large_to_replace is a new refusal. Claude Code uses it when the server answers that the document is too large to replace. This can happen whatever the remote switch below says.
For replaces that do not use a local_path, Claude Code can now send the server an extra value. It only does this when a remote switch is on. That switch is off unless it is turned on remotely. When it is off, the extra value is left empty.
Why
This looks like a change to how large project documents are replaced that is being rolled out in stages. Even without the switch, a replace can now fail with the new too-large refusal.
