What
Each message in a session points back to the one before it, forming a chain. When Claude Code loads a stored transcript, the saved history of a session, it can now walk that chain from the latest message. If a message points to one that is missing, Claude Code links it to the nearest earlier main message that has nothing following it, up to a set limit. It records how many links were repaired and how big the gaps were.
This runs only when a server-side switch is on and two other conditions about the environment hold.
Why
It is meant to repair cloud or Remote Control sessions that come back with broken history, so they can be resumed in full.
