Unclear It is not clear which providers or sign-in types keep prompt suggestions while usage credits are in use.

What

Prompt suggestions are next prompts that Claude Code offers for you to send. They were already turned off when you hit a rate limit, which is a cap on how much you can use in a period. They were also turned off near that limit if CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_PROMPT_SUGGESTION was set.

Claude Code now also turns them off when you are using usage credits, meaning extra paid usage beyond your plan's normal limit. The rate-limit reason still applies. Some provider or sign-in conditions keep suggestions running even while credits are in use.

Why

A suggestion costs usage. While you are paying for extra credits, Claude Code no longer spends them on suggestions you did not ask for.
