Prompt suggestions are the grayed-out predictions that appear in your prompt input. Claude Code now counts how many go unused in a row, and using one resets the count. After 20 unused in a row, it saves that streak to your settings and shows suggestions less often.
A one-time notice reads "Showing fewer prompt suggestions · use one to bring them back". It appears only when:
If you ignore suggestions they mostly go away. Using one brings them back, and forcing them on with the environment variable keeps them at their usual frequency.
